Talking Shop: Elkini Co. Swim founder and designer, Elyse (Elk), describes the inspiration the brand's upcoming piece, THE JULIA SET.

EK: “Like all of the pieces I’ve designed the Julia was named after one of my friends—one of the people that inspire me the most. My friend Julia, who I met in college, is such a ray of sunlight; she just brings so much to any room she goes into. It’s a trait that I admire so much about her. She’s always willing to offer helping hand to anyone—something I’m inspired by everyday.

Julia is kind of friend group famous for randomly breaking out backflips and handstands on the beach; I think in a past life she was probably an olympic gymnast. I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw her sitting still on the beach; she’s always doing something, like playing with the dog or swimming or playing spikeball, so when I was designing this bikini, I was really excited because I knew I wanted to capture that energy and those traits in the piece that I designed.

This was probably one of the longer projects that I’ve had, it was actually initially scheduled to launch with collection 02, but it took so much trial and error that it ended up getting pushed back in the timeline. So months and months and many samples of different measurements and different fabrics later, we finally have the finished product: THE JULIA SET! And I can say that, even though it took a little bit of extra time it was so worth it. I’m so so happy turned out and I can’t wait for you guys to try it and feel it and see it. I know Julia loves it, I gave her a sample as soon as we got the final plans figured out.

Definitely stay tuned for launch details. I have a feeling this one will be popular so make sure you get your sizes. And, yeah, just wanted to give a special shout out to Julia for being the person that she is and for inspiring me everyday in both my personal life and business.”
